What are the Metrakit mini GP?

The mini GP are road race competition motorcycles of reduced dimensions and weight, primarily designed by Tony Arbizu, the Aprilla 125GP winning designer, for children between 9 and 16 years, that wish to compete in motorcycle road racing on purpose designed and built equipment.

            
All the mini GP models, as well as their components, have been designed to match those used on Grand Prix bikes, thus obtaining motorcycles with very similar reactions to the 125 cc machines used in the World Championship races.

The mini GP, in its three versions, is the definitive machine for those children that want to start in road racing offering the optimum design for their size, strength and weight.

Metrakit manufacture three models; the mini GP (12” wheel) that, with its two possible motor sizes (50cc & 70cc) is suitable for children from 9 to 12 years, the mini GP XL (17” wheel, 80cc) suitable for children from 13 years and up and the Pre GP 125 for children from 15 years and up.

Progression

As the rider progresses in skill and demands greater engine performance, Metrakit offer engine upgrade kits for the GP 50 that are easy to install.

The stages of performance increase are:

• GP 50 standard 11 hp
• GP 70 SP 18 hp

This progression keeps costs low and avoids the hassle and need to buy and sell the machine to keep pace with the riders increase in skill and demand for greater performance. It also ensures that any other spares you have acquired are still useable.

As the rider increase in size and ability the XL80 is the natural progression offering 17" wheels and 25 hp, and then on to the Pre GP 125 which produces 33 hp - all with an eye to controlling costs and providing a balanced and appropriate performance package that enables the riders to continually develop their skills.

Where

Resulting from the Metrakit Concept, national championships have been created in Spain, France, United Kingdom, USA, Canada, Mexico, Sweden, Germany, Portugal, Brazil, Italy and now in Australia.

Summary

The Metrakit Concept ensures that there is a suitable road racing motorcycle available to the youth of today from the age of 8 up and as the rider increases in skill and physical size the machine accommodates that growth in a cost effective way.

Metrakit are chosen by Grand Prix World Champions and MotoGP riders for their children - Barros, Capirossi, Hayden, Pons, Mamola.

Each year, Metrakit hold a world festival in Spain at grand prix circuits such as Valencia or Almeria. The best Metrakit riders from around the world between the ages of 8 to 16 meet and compete in an atmosphere of head to head competition, fun and camaraderie. As well, representatives from the MotoGP Academy and 125 GP teams are in attendance to check out the talent pool.

In 2006, 50% of the MotoGP Academy, the school funded and run by Dorna / MotoGP, are ex-Metrakit riders. No other brand of motorcycle provides or delivers this opportunity to young riders today.

Metrakit chosen for Red Bull Rookies Cup

Red Bull chose the Metrakit Pre-GP 125 for the Red Bull Moto GP Rookies Cup selection round held in association with Dorna, in Valencia, Spain on August 28 - 31st, 2006.

The Metrakit Pre GP 125 is a full size motorcycle, powered by a Husqvarna 125cc motor that produces 33 hp, and is designed for cost effective youth racing on full size tracks. The Pre GP 125 is the next step in the progression from MiniGP 50 through 70 SP to 80XL by the young riders of today.

What Is Metrakit?

The metrakit GP bikes are available in GP50 50cc, GP70SP 70cc 12 inch wheel / GP80XL Copa 80cc 17 inch wheel and the Fun bike 70SP 70cc ( Motard ) style.
